Digicel Tonga has invested TOP$500,000 in new telecommunications equipment for the outer islands, Digicel Tonga CEO, Anthony Seuseu announced on 12 October.

The company has chattered a helicopter from Fiji and is now working in Ha’apai to upgrade their network to give both Ha’apai and Vava’u Groups better data experience after the domestic cable was cut during the Hunga-Tonga Hunga- Ha’apai eruption in January.

The equipment is being taken to Kao Island this week to upgrade the microwave links to improve connectivity. It will help upgrade the network and return the capacity for customers in Ha’apai and Vavau back to what it was before.

Digicel aims to continue providing people with superior and reliable network, best support and experience and best rewards, he said.

“All while encouraging communities to stand united as a nation, face all the challenges together, and to rise up and rebuild Tonga together.”

Digicel awarded Grand Prizes to winners of the Tonga Tu’uloa campaign that took place from 1 July to 30 September.
